Frequently Asked Questions to Help You Prepare for Your Session
-
Our specialties are women's health in hopes to ease the experience of an ever changing, female presenting body. From menstruation and fertility to pregnancy, motherhood, and an easeful menopause, we offer advanced trainings to support you on your journey so you can bring your best self to your life and to the world.
When you arrive for your first treatment with Moonseed Massage & Bodywork you will be greeted at the front desk of Family Tree Holistic Health. You'll be asked if you need to use the restroom before your treatment. You will then be taken to the massage room where we will privately discuss your intake, answer any of your questions, and learn about how to prepare yourself and how to position yourself on the table. You will then be left in privacy to undress and get on the table. In about two minutes, you'll hear a knock, and when you respond by saying "ready", your therapist will come in and only then, not before. If adjustments to your position are needed, we will do that before beginning the treatment. You will be reminded to communicate your needs at any time during your treatment. This includes temperature in the room or on the table, the pressure, sound, or whatever you need to be as comfortable as possible. You will always be discretely covered and draped. Massage begins by warming up the tissue with lighter strokes then deeper and or more specific work may be applied. You are free to either chat quietly or receive in silence for the duration. You may be asked at any time to reposition yourself or assist with a technique such as stretching if it may help with your treatment goals. You will be told when the session is complete, and you'll again be left in privacy to redress and leave the massage room to check out at the front desk.

While prenatal massage and manual lymphatic drainage are our most popular services, we also offer therapeutic massage, fertility enhancing massage, postnatal massage, and massage for easeful menstruation and menopause.
-
Most people undress completely yet leave their underwear on. If we are working on the hips, as many pregnant clients request, we may suggest you completely undress, but it is always up to you and your level of comfort in doing so. You will always be discretely covered. Conversely, if you prefer to leave your clothes on, you may still receive massage.
-
We want you to be comfortable. If showering and shaving before your appointment makes you comfortable to receive massage, please do. It is never required to do either.
-
We recommend pre-booking your appointments for once a month for about 3 months out. Our calendar tends to be full at least 3-4 weeks in advance. We attribute this to both providing effective care plus having a community of clients who prioritize themselves, and we want this for you. Of course, more than once a month may sometimes be suggested or desired.
-
We recommend once a month for all of our services for overall wellness and regular structural and nervous system care. Once a month is considered maintenance. We will discuss the need for more frequent services on an individual basis. For example, if you have an area of chronic pain, tension, or swelling, we may suggest more sessions over a few weeks before moving on to once a month maintenance.
-
Yes. If you are experiencing a high-risk pregnancy which includes conditions such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, blood clots, placenta problems, or congenital heart disease, we will need clearance from your doctor to provide prenatal massage. Please reach out with further questions.
-
Yes. Although full body, circulation enhancing massage and specific acupressure points are contraindicated during the first trimester of pregnancy, tension relieving massage to the upper back, shoulders, hands, and feet can safely and profoundly relax a newly pregnant mother. Cortisol levels are lowered, and endorphins are released while full body, circulatory changes are avoided. Releasing physical, emotional, and energetic tension during first trimester massage can encourage a joyful experience of pregnancy and can ease the nervousness or ambivalence around being pregnant.
-
Depending on where you are in your pregnancy, positions will be mostly side lying and or semi-reclining. Your comfort in either of these positions is considered throughout.
-
Yes. Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is not appropriate for all clients. MLD is prohibited for untreated congestive heart failure, active infection, acute deep vein thrombosis, or fever. A doctor's approval may be necessary to treat active cancer or renal dysfunction. Please reach out with further questions.
